What about room for my door handle?
We get asked some questions quite a bit. One of the most common is this one that we received via a contact us request from the website just yesterday:

How wide does the area between the door casing and door jamb need to be in order to mount the screen? Our door handle protrudes slightly into that space, leaving approximately 3/4 inch clearance for the screen to slide by.—

Sometimes customers have an unusual reason that the door handle might be operating in the same space as the Plisse retractable screen. Perhaps they have French style double doors that they may sometimes only open one of but will have a double Plisse retractable screen covering the entire opening. In this kind of situation you might need to have clearance in your jamb for the Plisse as well as the existing door’s handle.
But, most of the time it’s simply a matter of thinking about the way you will use your new Plisse screen, as I said to this customer:

This is an excellent and common question. It is important first to keep in mind that your door will be open when the screen is in use and so therefore the handle will not be in the way of the screen. If you are still concerned about the width of the jamb for mounting the screen in I’ve attached a simple dimensional drawing showing the dimensions of the basic components to the screen.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me again with any other questions.

And most of the time, we get this sort of response:
OMG! I can’t believe that didn’t dawn on me. My husband is going to be doing the measurements, and I expect to be placing an order shortly. I’m really looking forward to getting the summer breeze through our back door. Thanks so much for responding to all of our questions.

Not to worry, any question about a retractable screen for your home is a good question. We appreciate the need to think the investment through and prepare properly for the purchase. We just hope that maybe this will answer a few more questions – maybe from some of you who thought about it but didn’t take the initiative to write us.
Happy Spring Screening Everyone!
